“Strawberry Chinny” has been selected to screen at the 2024 Essence Film Festival, held in New Orleans from July 4th to July 7th. The film, directed by Cheta Chukwu and produced by Kele, Ngozi Okafor, and Chimezie Imo, will be showcased in the CULTURAL CONNECTIONS section of the festival, offering a platform for its debut release and exposure to audiences.
Starring Genoveva Umeh, Chimezie Imo, Modola Osifuwa, and Obehi Aburime, “Strawberry Chnny” follows the story of an irrational heartbroken makeup artist who, after being dumped by her boyfriend, navigates a complicated living arrangement with her best friend.
Expressing his excitement about the film’s selection, Director Cheta Chukwu shared, “The heart of ‘Strawberry Chinny’ lies in its relatability. We aimed to create characters that feel like old friends, inviting the audience to laugh, cry, and reflect on their own journey.”
Actor and producer Chimezie Imo, making his producing debut with “Strawberry Chinny,” added, “To have our debut film selected at the Essence Film Festival feels like a step in the right direction for my company, Vox Cinematic Films.”
