InkBlot’s “Big Love” Crosses N30 Million in 10 Days With Advance Screening Sale

The Story

After its 10-day run at the box office, Big Love makes N33.06 million.

Tell Me More

Big Love, by InkBlot’s Productions, was released at the Nigerian box office on the 28th of June, 2023. The romantic drama explores the love chemistry between Adil, played by Timini Egbuson, and Adina, played by Bimbo Ademoye. It was written, produced, and directed by Biodun Stephen for Inkblot’s Productions.

The movie plots Adil and Adina together in a love story that ensues as a result of an old-time crush that Adil had on Adina since their school days. They both reconnected and started with sexcapades only for Adina to keep telling Adil that she has no interest in pursuing a genuine relationship as what they are doing is just temporary.

Distributed by FilmOne and showing across 59 locations in the country, the film became the second highest-grossing title at the cinema after Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny. It had a weekend opening of N12.02 million and N17.97 million in seven-day sales. Together with the pre-screening ticket sales, the title made a total of N25.62 million that week.

On the weekend of its second week, Big Love made N7.38 million. This is a 41% fall from what it made the previous week. In ten days, the romantic drama made N33.06 million. At this time, it had dropped from the second position to the fourth position, being surpassed by Love, Lust & Other Things and Transformers: Rise of the Beast, which took the first and third positions respectively.

Big Love’s drop in the second week can largely be attributed to another romantic title, Love, Lust & Other Things, released that week. The title stars A-list actor and actress, Ramsey Nouah and Osas Ighodaro, in the lead role.

Top 5

4. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

The title opened in 57 locations. But now in its second week, its number of locations has increased to 60. A sum of N9.09 million was realized in the second weekend.

5. Love, Lust & Other Things

This newly launched romantic drama at the cinema earned the highest last weekend with N10.04 million. The film launched in 60 locations and stars Ramsey Nouah, Osas Ighodaro, Kunle Remi, Wale Ojo, and others. It is directed by Kayode Kasum, the director of Soole (2021) and Obara’M (2022).

Tangent

InkBlot Productions, on the 10th of February, 2023, released a Valentine’s day-theme title, Love in a Pandemic, a romantic title that stars Deyemi Okanlawon, Nancy Isime, Eso Dike, Teniola Aladese, and others.

The title had a weekend opening of N7 million and a seven-day opening of N15 million. After ten days, it had made a total of N20.79 million. It raked in N7.89 million in the second week to gross N23.52 million. This is lower than what Big Love has been able to even make in just ten days.

Just like Big Love, Love in a Pandemic witnessed serious competition. Its major competitors were Battle on Buka Street and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Competition Ahead

It seems that Big Love might face some serious competition in the days ahead. Already, it is facing Love, Lust & Other Thing. The title features notable box office stars and it is said to be the most-anticipated romance feature film for the year. This is because it stars the biggest and the most successful playboy actor of all time in Nollywood, Ramsey Nouah, and Osas Ighodaro, the winner of the AMVCA Best Actress in a Drama in 2022 and 2023.

Another big title coming to the big screen is Orisa, an epic Yoruba movie, which will debut on the 21st of July. It is written and produced by Odunlade Adekola. Nobody knew what Yoruba epic movies could do at the box office until last year when King of Thieves came out and grossed N320.80 million.

Hotel Labamba, also directed by Biodun Stephen, is slated to be released on the 28th of this month. The comedy crime movie features top box office stars like Lateef Adedimeji, Bimbo Ademoye, and others.

It is difficult to say that Big Love will perform well at the box office with these three big titles because of their supposed consumer demand and attention.

Similar Gauging

On the 13th of May last year, InkBlot Productions released The Perfect Arrangement but it did not perform so well at the box office. It only garnered a sum of N30.51 million, even though it also had an A-list cast. This was largely because of the competition it faced at the box office.

One week prior to its release, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had been launched. The film was widely received and it had a seven-day opening of N171.46 million. In its second week, the week The Perfect Arrangement was released, Doctor Strange made N79.84 million. That week, King of Thieves, which was in its sixth week, made N17.10 million. All of this made it hard for The Perfect Arrangement to perform so well.

Will the case not be the same for Big Love? Is it that Inkblot is usually unlucky with release dates?

In Summary

Though the days ahead might be rough for Big Love, it has started the journey on good feet, having made a little over N33 million in just ten days. With the competition standing ahead of it, does it stand the chance of making it past N70 million?
