MTV Shuga season 5 has set a May 2023 date for its debut.

Returning Cast

The returning cast are Adesua Etomi-Wellington, who played the role of Sheila; Sharon Jatto, who played the role of Simi; and Tomiwa Tegbe, who played the role of Wasiu.

In a recent development, some new names have been added to the cast train. They are Genoneva Umeh (from “Far From Home”), and Kanaga Emmanuel Eme. (from “Big Brother Titans”), and Gbubemi Ejeye (from “Citation”).

In 2022, the show initiated a search for new talents through an online audition. The two winners are Kanaga Emmanuel Eme and Chioma Edak, who will be playing lead roles in the new season.

Other news faces to expect on the show are Susan Pwajok, Maggie Osuome, Ilooise Omohinmi, Ben Touitou, Lexan Peters, Okey Uzoeshi, Kem Ajieh Ikechukwu, Chioma Edak, Kiki Omeili, John Njamah, Bolaji Ogunmola, and Francis Onwochei.

“The cast of MTV Shuga Naija are not just actors, but ambassadors of our edutainment campaign. They are working tirelessly to ensure that our messaging reaches and positively impacts millions of young Nigerians, empowering them to make better decisions about their health and lives,” remarked Anita Adesiyan, Country Manager, MTV Shuga Naija.

MTV Shuga season 5, which is aimed at empowering female creatives, will be produced by 1Pod Pictures. The showrunners are Isioma Osaje and Temidayo Makanjuola. The writers’ room will be headed by Kemi Adesoye. Others writers include Tamara Aihie, Chiemeka Osuagwu, Sonia Irabor, and Fatimah Binta Gimsay.

The episodes of the new show will be co-directed by Adeola Osunkojo, Kayode Kasum, and Yemi “FilmBoy” Morafa.

Plot Details

An arranged marriage, toxic masculinity, the aftermath of a COVID-19 death, gender-based violence and a relationship complicated by HIV, are some of the gripping storylines in store for viewers.

How To Watch

The new season of the series, slated to debut on May 7th 2023, will be launched on MTV Base (DStv channel 322 and GOtv channel 72) and BET.

 After 2 weeks it will be on Free to Air television stations.

All episodes of the season will also be later available for streaming on YouTube and Netflix.
