The Story⚡
Three distinct films, Iwe Ala, On Different Grounds, and Disclosure Day, opened in Nigerian cinemas on June 12 and have been recording their box office numbers ever since.

Tell Me More
The June 12 releases offered Nigerian audiences a range of storytelling styles, from culturally rooted family drama to romantic comedy and international sci-fi thriller. Here is a closer look at each.
Iwe Ala (An Ojude Oba Story)
The movie is a family drama centered on a renowned but demanding master tailor in Ijebuland. Facing a reputation crisis when his staff abandons him with unfinished garments just before the Ojude Oba festival, he must reconcile with his estranged family to meet the deadline. The story explores themes of legacy, betrayal, forgiveness, and cultural pride against the backdrop of the iconic Ijebu celebration. Directed by Adeoluwa Owu and executive produced by Olawumi Fajemirokun, the film stars Owobo Ogunde in the lead, with key roles for Mercy Aigbe, Dele Odule, Eniola Ajao, Demola Adedoyin, Tobi Makinde, Aishat Isiaka, Tolu Otebiyi, and Farooq Oreagba (noted for his real-life Ojude Oba prominence). It is distributed by FilmOne.
On Different Grounds
This film is a romantic comedy-drama and Africa’s first Nollywood-Bollywood collaboration directed by a Nigerian filmmaker (Mildred Okwo), and follows divorced billionaire couple Eyimofe and Isioma Fregene. Forced to reunite for their daughter’s wedding, they navigate unresolved tensions, family chaos, and cultural clashes between Lagos and Mumbai influences. Produced by Nicolette Ndigwe-Kalu, the film blends humor, heart, and cross-cultural elements. The cast includes Bob-Manuel Udokwu and Jennifer Eliogu as the leads, supported by Nkem Owoh, Uche Jombo, Abena Akuaba, Vineet Raina, Uche Montana, Bambam, Ifeanyi Kalu, and others, including the Mbadiwe twins and Aproko Doctor.
Disclosure Day
Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi thriller examines humanity’s reaction to confirmed extraterrestrial contact and government secrets. It stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo, with a screenplay by David Koepp and score by John Williams. Distributed in Nigeria via Nile Entertainment, the big-budget international title brought premium large-format appeal to local cinemas alongside the domestic entries.
