Lebara Play CEO Teni Stuffman on Affordable Content, Creator Monetization & Micro Drama Launch “Imported Bahu”

The Story⚡

Lebara Play CEO Teni Stuffman is entering the content space with the platform’s debut micro drama “Imported Bahu”, as the company seeks to deliver rich stories at prices Nigerians can afford while helping local talent earn from their work.

Tell Me More

In a recent interview, Teni Stuffman, Managing Director of Lebara Nigeria, outlined the vision for Lebara Play. The platform tackles two core challenges in the Nigerian entertainment space. First, it provides access to rich, quality content at prices customers can comfortably afford. Second, it supports indigenous talent by curating vertical content from skilled local creators, showcasing their work, and creating pathways for them to monetize their efforts.

Lebara Play stands out for its focus on micro-dramas, compact stories delivered in episodes of three minutes or less. While Nigeria has a strong tradition of feature films and longer series, this shorter format remains largely unexplored. Stuffman highlighted that well-produced micro episodes can captivate audiences quickly, encouraging viewers to stay engaged and return for more. The goal is to deliver entertainment that feels fresh, addictive, and well-crafted.

Beyond content, Lebara Nigeria operates as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) known for reliable, affordable, and customer-focused telecom services. Lebara Play builds on this foundation by introducing innovation to the market. The platform uses a low-cost subscription model paired with advertising opportunities, creating multiple revenue streams. This approach benefits both the company and content creators while keeping the experience accessible for users.

The Lebara Play app becomes available for download on 2 July. Users will then be able to explore the platform and enjoy its initial offerings. The launch title is Imported Bahu, a cross-cultural micro drama series that blends Nollywood and Bollywood elements. Produced in collaboration with Forever 7 Entertainment, the series stars talented Nollywood actress Osas Ighodaro in the lead role alongside Bollywood actor Rajniesh Duggall. It tells a story of love, family, secrets, and an “imported” daughter-in-law who disrupts the status quo, bringing together Nigerian and Indian storytelling traditions in a fresh way.

This debut production marks the beginning of Lebara Play’s commitment to original content. By partnering with experienced creators and featuring established actors like Osas Ighodaro, the platform aims to set a high standard for micro dramas in Africa. Stuffman emphasized that the company is young, versatile, and determined to step outside conventional approaches to disrupt the market constructively.

Lebara Play positions itself as more than just another streaming service. It seeks to build an ecosystem that nurtures creative talent across Africa, develops local stories, and shares them with wider audiences. The combination of telecom services and entertainment content creates a unique value proposition for customers who want both connectivity and engaging media experiences.
