Two established figures in Nigerian film and faith communities have joined forces on a production that will retell biblical accounts through an African cultural lens, beginning with an open call for performers.

African Bible Stories is a project produced by Nemsia Studios. The studio was co-founded by director BB Sasore and Derin Adeyokunnu. Sasore directed the acclaimed feature Breath of Life, which received multiple awards at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, including recognition for best movie and best director. Nemsia has built a reputation for thoughtful, high-production-value storytelling within Nollywood.
Jimmy Odukoya, senior pastor of The Fountain of Life Church and an experienced actor, publicly introduced the project. The collaboration pairs Sasore’s filmmaking background with Odukoya’s dual role in ministry and performance. The stated aim is to present biblical narratives with authentic African settings, characters, and cultural textures rather than relying on imported visual traditions.
The production is currently seeking actors through an open audition process. Interested performers are asked to prepare a one-minute monologue of their own choosing and submit it according to the project’s guidelines. Cash prizes are attached to the top three submissions: ₦2,000,000 for first place, ₦1,000,000 for second place, and ₦500,000 for third place.
This approach reflects a broader interest in contextualizing Scripture for African audiences. While various independent animated series, short films, and illustrated books have already explored biblical material through African perspectives, African Bible Stories stands out for its connection to an established production house and its direct invitation to a wide pool of acting talent. Exact story selections, episode structure, and distribution plans have not yet been released. What is confirmed is the creative priority: faith-based narratives shaped by African experience and told with cinematic care.
The open nature of the call allows both seasoned and emerging actors to participate. Submissions are being collected as the project moves from announcement into active development under Nemsia Studios’ oversight.
