MultiChoice has named Emma Gichonge as the new General Manager of Operations for East Africa for its Showmax video streaming service.
In her role, Gichonge will oversee operations in the East African market as the company relaunches its streaming service in collaboration with Comcast NBCUniversal’s Peacock and Sky. Showmax’s Chief Operating Officer, Joe Heshu, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Comcast NBC Universal, highlighting Showmax’s ambitions to become Africa’s leading streaming platform.
Heshu also welcomed Gichonge to the team, citing her extensive experience as a valuable asset in serving customers in the East African market.
In her response, Gichonge expressed excitement about joining Showmax during this pivotal phase of its growth. She emphasized Showmax’s bold initiatives, including its transition to the globally scaled Peacock platform, expansion of its local content library, and introduction of new affordable plans.
Gichonge also highlighted her passion for innovation and her commitment to building the business in East Africa, mentioning ongoing efforts with partners like Safaricom to enhance customer payment options, including full integration of M-Pesa payments into the Showmax platform.

Notably, she played a key role at Yutap, a startup tech company, where she spearheaded the implementation of mobile money solutions across Africa and Asia. At Safaricom, Gichonge led the successful migration of the legacy M-Pesa mobile money platform and established an Enterprise Project Management Office, demonstrating her innovative approach to project management.
Prior to her current role, she served as the Managing Director at MultiChoice Malawi, overseeing numerous commercial initiatives in the country.
