7 Things You Need To Know About “Ajosepo 2: The Gathering”, Hitting The Big Screens, May 28th

The Story⚡

Two years after one chaotic wedding brought families together, another gathering is about to test just how much drama a Nigerian family can handle.

Tell Me More

Ajosepo 2: The Gathering continues the story of the families first introduced in the 2024 hit Ajosepo. While the original followed Dapo and Tani on the eve of their wedding, the sequel shifts focus to a new couple: Jide (Timini Egbuson) and Mary (Bolaji Ogunmola). The film reunites familiar faces amid fresh tensions, secrets, and the kind of family dynamics that turn celebrations into memorable chaos.

Directed by Kayode Kasum, the movie features a large ensemble cast including returning actors and notable additions. Here are seven key details:

1. Same Family, Different Wedding

The sequel is set two years after the events of the first film. This time, the extended families converge for the wedding of Jide and Mary. Old relationships and unresolved issues resurface, blending familiar characters with new conflicts in a single high-stakes celebration.

2. Kayode Kasum Returns As Director

Kasum, who directed the original Ajosepo, is back behind the camera. He has directed 12 of Nigeria’s 100 highest-grossing films, making him one of the most commercially successful directors in Nollywood. His approach often mixes comedy with relatable family situations.

3. Toyin Abraham Joins As A Major New Cast Member

Toyin Abraham is the standout addition to the cast. She appears alongside returning actors, including Timini Egbuson, Bolaji Ogunmola, Mercy Aigbe, Mike Afolarin, Tomike Adeoye, Ronke Oshodi-Oke, Yemi Solade, Kamo State, and Kiitan Bukola. Odunlade Adekola also joins the cast for this installment.

4. Produced By Three Women With Strong Ties To The Project

The producers are Bolaji Ogunmola (who also stars as Mary and leads The Ogunmola Company), Feyifunmi Oginni (producer of the first Ajosepo), and Barbara Babarinsa. This team brings both creative continuity and fresh producing strength to the sequel.

5. Filmed At Kunle Afolayan’s KAP Film Village

Principal photography took place at the KAP Film Village in Ogun State. Director Kayode Kasum described the shoot as a productive “work vacation,” noting that the setting allowed the cast and crew to stay focused and comfortable.

6. Release Date Moved To May

The original Ajosepo opened on April 10, 2024. The sequel arrives in cinemas on May 28, 2026, placing it in a different part of the release calendar and creating a new box office challenge for the franchise.

7. The First Film Set A Strong Benchmark

Ajosepo grossed ₦257.25 million at the Nigerian box office, becoming the highest-grossing April release of 2024 and finishing among the year’s top films overall. It opened with ₦51.9 million in its first week, a figure the sequel will aim to surpass.

In Summary

Ajosepo 2: The Gathering arrives in cinemas nationwide on May 28.
