The NYC Women’s Fund for Media, Music and Theatre: a groundbreaking initiative by the City of New York Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) to address the underrepresentation of women and women-identifying artists in film, television, theatre, and music.
Written by Clementina Ojie, Produced by Josh Olaoluwa and Directed Orire Nwani, the title is the only African Project awarded in this year’s fiction feature category.
Nigerian actors Efa Iwara and Tope Olowoniyan are confirmed to be in Leading roles on this project.
Directed by the fast-rising Orire Nwani, and produced by Josh Olaoluwa of Conceptified Media,
this film was selected as one of the 4 feature films in this year’s fiction category.
Set during the pandemic, the film follows the life of a young Lagos wife Tola (Tope Olowoniyan)
who is desperate to take advantage of quarantine and conceive her first child. Unbeknownst to
her, her husband has no intentions of having children.
On receiving one of the grants, writer and executive producer, Clementina Ojie said, “I’m thrilled
and humbled to be named a recipient of the 2023 NYC Women’s Fund.
Not only is it an honor to be among the talented women creators and artists awarded the finishing grant, I’m also thankful to the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment for believing in me and helping me complete this project.

Key Background
The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME), in partnership with New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), has awarded $2 million to 96 projects through the NYC Women’s Fund for Media, Music and Theatre.
This groundbreaking initiative, which aims to address the underrepresentation of women in film and digital media, music, and theatre, has provided a total of $7.5 million to 342 projects (89 in 2022, 94 in 2020 and 63 in 2019).
Selected from 1,103 applications, the fourth round of NYC Women’s Fund projects represent a broad range of work by a diverse group of creatives at various stages of their careers. Grants were awarded in nine categories including general music, classical/jazz/experimental music, theatre productions, fiction shorts, documentary features, documentary shorts, documentary webisodes/web series and fiction webisodes
What Happens Next?
The finishing grant facilitated by the New York Foundation for the Arts is aimed at providing
support for the Film’s post-production, and a New York premiere in early 2024.
