Odunlade Adekola’s Box Office Strength Increases With “Lakatabu” Movie

The Story⚡

Odunlade Adekola is now a Major Box Office Draw.

Tell Me More

Lakatabu is an indigenous film, written and produced by Odunlade Adekola. Starring  Adebayo ‘Oga Bello’ Salami, Aderinoye Babatunde, Adunni Ade, Akin Lewis, Bolanle Ninalowo, Eniola Ajao, Ibrahim Chatta, Mr Latin, Odunlade Adekola, Tope ‘Teddy A’ Adenibuyan, and Yomi Fash-Lanso.

When a man begins to use his powers for criminal activities, threatening the lives of citizens, his downfall becomes imminent when he kidnaps the daughter of the man who robbed him of power.

Lakatabu was released to the cinemas on 21st June 2024 with a box office gross of N47m in its first opening weekend.

Orisa vs Lakatabu

Orisa and Lakatabu are Yoruba Nollywood films produced by Odunlade Adekola in 2023 and 2024 respectively.

Orisa – 21st July, 2023. Orisa made a gross of N27.58m in its first opening weekend (3 days), then N40.86 in seven days. After four weekends in cinemas, Orisa made a total of N101m at the box office in 2023.

Lakatabu: 21st June, 2024. Lakatabu made a box office earning of N47.95m in its first opening weekend and then N64.82m gross in seven days.

There seems to be an impressive margin between the box office earnings of two movies (Orisa and Lakatabu) from the same producer. Lakatabu currently ranks second after Bad Boys: Ride or Die in the Box Office chart.

An earning comparison and box office trajectory comparison of the two titles reflects the increase in the strength of the producer on big-screen audiences and acceptance of language titles in cinemas

It is also interesting to note how both titles released in non-holiday windows have been able to put up decent numbers and withstand Hollywood competition

For Lakatabu, the title met Bad Boys Ride or Die and yet it pulled double digits during opening weekend

Fri – 12.95m
Sat – 13.67m
Sun – 21.32m

In Summary

Amidst tight competitors including Muri and Ko, Inside Out 2, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and Criminal, Lakatabu still remains the leading Nollywood title in the box office earnings for the week.

The title is projected to cume a near 200M before bowing out from the screens.
