Tell Me More

Agbara Nla: The Return is a new production rooted in the 1993 classic created, written, and directed by Evangelist Mike Bamiloye under Mount Zion Film Productions. The original series, known in English as The Ultimate Power, became a landmark in Nigerian and African Christian filmmaking.

The movie depicted intense spiritual warfare in a village setting, showing confrontations between forces of darkness, including witchcraft, marine spirits, occult practices, and demonic strongholds, and the supremacy of God’s power through prayer, faith, and bold evangelism. The series had a profound impact, with many viewers reporting personal conversions, deliverances, and community revivals sparked by its message.

The new film revives this foundational story for contemporary audiences while maintaining the core themes of divine authority over evil. It is co-created and directed by Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua Mike-Bamiloye (JayMikee), with production handled through a collaboration between Mount Zion Film Productions, Circuits, and Sozo Films.

Chris Odeh serves as producer, with Mohammed Sedik and Damilola Bamiloye as co-producers. Blue Pictures Distribution is managing the nationwide theatrical release. The project wrapped principal photography with a substantial crew and features updated production quality while staying true to the original’s spiritual essence.

In the cast, Mike Bamiloye reprises his iconic role as Isawuru, joined by Philip Olubakin as Olaboye, Damilola Mike-Bamiloye as Kola, and Aanu Kolade Abiodun as Bose. The film aims to reach both those who grew up with the 1990s series and newer viewers encountering these themes for the first time.

The Next Generation Takes the Helm

This return marks a significant moment as the new generation of the Bamiloye family steps forward to continue the family legacy. Co-created and directed by Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua Mike-Bamiloye (JayMikee), the project blends the spiritual depth established by their father, Evangelist Mike Bamiloye, with fresh perspectives, updated storytelling techniques, and modern production quality suitable for today’s audiences.

Damilola Mike-Bamiloye, born on September 16, 1989, is an evangelist, actor, writer, producer, director, and director of photography. Joshua Mike-Bamiloye, popularly known as JayMikee, was born on November 7, 1991. He is a gospel singer, music producer, actor, and filmmaker. Starting as a background music producer for Mount Zion at age 14, he has released popular songs including “Hello Hello Sister,” “Adara,” and “I Will Love.” His work spans music, digital content, and film, bringing a multifaceted creative approach to this project.

The Childhood Fear It Left Behind

For many who grew up in the 1990s and early 2000s, Agbara Nla was more than just a film. Its intense scenes, particularly those involving Isawuru and the forces of darkness, left a deep impression. Some recall the famous chant associated with the witches (often remembered as “Ayamatanga”), sending shivers down their spines, leading to sleepless nights, fear of the dark, and reluctance to run errands alone after watching. The series heightened awareness of spiritual realities for many children in faith homes, combining genuine fear with lasting lessons about God’s ultimate power.

Tangent

Released in 1993 and distributed primarily through home video, the original Agbara Nla (also known as The Ultimate Power) became a classic across Nigeria and beyond. Its direct portrayal of spiritual warfare, featuring witchcraft covens, occult practices, marine spirits, demonic strongholds, and the triumph of faith through prayer and evangelism, resonated deeply with viewers. Many families gathered around their televisions to watch the series, which played a key role in Mount Zion Film Productions’ rise as one of Africa’s leading voices in faith-based storytelling. The series contributed to personal conversions, deliverances, and even community revivals in various parts of the country

In Summary

Agbara Nla: The Return features a strategic marketing push through social media announcements, teaser releases, and collaborations with distribution partners, generating early buzz among faith-based audiences. As one of Mount Zion’s major theatrical releases, it has the potential to draw strong box office numbers from nostalgic fans and new viewers, marking a notable step for the ministry into wide cinema distribution.
