Emeka Nwagbaraocha, Chimezie Imo, Tomiwa Tegbe, and Mike Afolarin, who first gained attention in the film Kasala, are reuniting as both stars and executive producers of a new stage play opening this July in Lagos.

The four actors are launching The MECT Company with this production, a creative collective built on their long-standing friendship and shared approach to storytelling. Project X… Almost Famous follows four friends who were once part of a music group called 4-Eva. Now facing the everyday demands of life in Lagos, the story examines how they deal with ambition, setbacks, survival, and the bonds that keep them going.
Written by Chiemeka Osuagwu and directed by Goodness Emmanuel, the play mixes sharp dialogue, live music, and honest moments drawn from the realities many young people in the city experience. It looks at the weight of expectations, the sting of failure, the pull of hope, and the role of laughter and friendship in moving forward. The setting uses the energy and challenges of contemporary Lagos to ground the narrative.
The production marks a deliberate step by the actors to create work that feels personal and culturally connected. “Since Kasala, each of us has continued to grow individually, but there’s something special about coming back together,” they said. “This project is personal. It’s about the friendships that hold us up, the dreams we refuse to let die, and the city that tests us every single day.”
Performances are scheduled for Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July 2025, and Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th July 2025 at MUSON Centre, Agip Hall, Lagos. Additional cast members, ticket details, and official artwork will be released in the coming weeks.
