Kenya romcom series Big Girl, Small World produced by Girrafe Africa Productions is set for a May 2024 release on Showmax.
The 13-part series follows Ciku, a plus-size woman who stumbles through a journey of self-discovery after a humiliating scandal. In the process, she finds out what it means to live big in a world determined to shrink her. Big Girl Small World, features an all-female writing team and is directed by Nick Mutuma (You Again, Sincerely Daisy)
This rom-com series release is part of the Showmax Kenya slate prepped for May 2024 which includes, RHONairobi, the dramedy movie “Untying Kantai”, written by Abel Mutua and directed by Philip Karanja and Nilichoma, the first Showmax Original docuseries in Kenya. It features well-known personalities in Kenya who received an unexpected windfall and then blew it all.

Nicholas Munene Mutuma is a Kenyan actor, producer, and television/radio host.
His first break on TV happened when he was cast in the Citizen TV show, “Tabasamu”, portraying the character Luka.
His role in a drama series, Shuga where he acted alongside Lupita Nyong’o became his big break in his stage performance. In 2015, Mutuma featured in a popular web series; “This Is It”, which became very successful with over one million views in the first 5 months.
In 2019, Mutuma directed his first movie called You Again.

One of the most influential TV shows in Africa follows the struggles of Tiwa, a plus-sized young girl living in Lagos, dealing with the pressures of wanting to be in a relationship and to be successful.
The web series has hit cumulated views of 20 Million from season 1 to season 5 and has brought to limelight its key cast to its Nigerian cast
Producers of Big Girl Small World seem to have picked up the storyline and portrayed it in a Kenyan setting with some interesting changes. The result will be interesting to observe.
Nick Mutuma who directed this new Showmax series also starred in a season Skinny Girl series.
