The 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards are shaping up to be one of the most competitive yet. Nominees were revealed live on Sunday, March 29, 2026, with actor Chimezie Imo handling hosting duties across Africa Magic’s channels.
Two titles sit at the top of the pile, Gingerrr and The Herd each walked away with nine nominations, spanning acting, directing, and technical categories. Close behind is To Kill A Monkey with eight nods, followed by My Father’s Shadow at seven. Together, these four projects account for a significant share of the ballot and signal what voters and judges valued most in African storytelling over the past year.
The acting races are particularly interesting this time around. Sola Sobowale, a long-established force in Nollywood, picked up nominations in both the lead and supporting categories, she’s not the only one pulling double duty either, with Uzor Arukwe and Lateef Adedimeji also landing in multiple fields. Meanwhile, Genoveva Umeh scored her first-ever Best Lead Actress nod, marking her as someone to keep an eye on as the ceremony approaches.
Public voting opened at 8 PM on March 29 through africamagic.tv/amvca, and the winners will be crowned at the ceremony on May 9.
AMVCA 2026 comes with 32 categories – 18 jury-decided, 11 public-voted, and 3 special recognition awards. The 12th AMVCA promises a fiercely competitive run to the ceremony on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
