Phoenix Fury, written, produced, and directed by Ifeoma Chukwuogo for FizzyK Pictures and distributed by Nile Entertainment, is a Nigerian-Ghanaian drama that traces the lives of Ewura-Ama and Ifeatu.
Ewura-Ama, recently widowed, inherits Utopia Valley, a luxury resort in the Ghanaian hills, hoping for quiet. Her solitude ends when a newly elected Nigerian governor arrives as a guest. The encounter reopens secrets that stretch back decades. Parallel to her story runs that of Ifeatu, whose path is marked by loss, displacement, and the long consequences of earlier violence. The two women’s experiences converge as they confront a shared figure from the past.
The narrative unfolds across four chapters that move between periods and locations, linking personal grief to broader historical currents, including the Biafran war and later political upheavals. Chukwuogo structures the film so that past and present inform each other without reducing either to a simple flashback. The result is a study of how private injury accumulates across time and borders, and of the complicated relationship between seeking redress and finding any measure of resolution.
The cast includes Uzoamaka Power, Ama K. Abebrese, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Joseph Momodu, Adjetey Anang, Onyinye Odokoro, Ijeoma Grace Agu and others. Performances emphasize restraint and accumulated weight rather than outward display. Production values support the dual settings, with cinematography that distinguishes the different eras and places while keeping the focus on character.
After its premiere at the 2024 Africa International Film Festival, where it received recognition for both film and direction, Phoenix Fury continued on the festival circuit before its wider theatrical release. The film runs just over two hours and is presented in English.
