The Story⚡
Over 12,000 tickets sold before opening day. ₦170.59 million by Sunday. A faith film now holds the biggest faith-based opening ever and the third biggest in Nollywood history, reaching milestones other Nollywood movies only dreamed of. Agbara Nla: The Return did in October what Nollywood usually needs December for.

Tell Me More
Agbara Nla: The Return is the Damilola and Joshua Bamiloye remake of the 1993 Mount Zion classic written by Mike Bamiloye, with Mike himself back as Isawuru. It opened in Nigerian cinemas on October 1, 2026. Before the first regular show, previews had run, and the numbers from that week set the pace. Here is what the film has reached so far.
Biggest Single-Day Preview Gross of All Time and Biggest Single-Day Previews Ever in West Africa
Preview figures showed the film earning ₦71.4 million at the box office with 12,134 admissions. Trackers and the distributor described this as the largest single-day preview gross recorded in West Africa and the biggest single-day preview gross of all time for the region. Lagos accounted for over half the revenue, followed by Oyo and the Federal Capital Territory. The numbers arrived before the official nationwide release and immediately placed the title at the top of weekly charts.
States and Preview Revenue
The money came mostly from the South-West. Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Osun and Ondo together accounted for about 76.7% of preview revenue, and Abuja was the strongest market outside the region.
| State | Share of preview revenue |
| Lagos | 50.8% |
| Oyo | 13.2% |
| Abuja | 10.7% |
| Ogun | 6.2% |
| Kwara | 4.5% |
| Osun | 3.8% |
These are the six largest states in the regional revenue data released with the preview figures. Together they account for 89.2% of preview revenue, and Edo, Ondo, Rivers, and the remaining states share the other 10.8%. The pattern makes sense for a Yoruba-language Christian film: the South-West supplies most of the money, and Abuja’s 10.7% is the one large share outside that region.

Biggest Preview Admissions for 2026 (12,100+)
Those same 12,134 admissions stood as the highest preview admissions figure recorded for any film in 2026. The volume of ticket sales reflected organised groups, church communities and individual viewers who turned out in strength across multiple cities. The concentration in the South-West was clear, yet the turnout reached beyond traditional strongholds of the original film.
Biggest First-Day Gross for a Nollywood Title Ever & Biggest Single-Day Gross for October
The preview performance also delivered the biggest first-day gross ever recorded for a Nollywood title and the largest single-day gross for October. Industry trackers confirmed both distinctions. The achievement arrived in a year that had already seen several strong Nollywood openings, making the scale of the single-day result particularly noticeable.

Biggest Faith-Based Opener of All Time and Number One Movie of the Week
Distributors and box-office platforms described the film as the biggest faith-based opener of all time. It claimed the number-one position for the week even while still in previews. The combination of an established story, modern cinematic presentation, and coordinated audience mobilisation produced results that surpassed previous faith-based releases at the Nigerian box office.

3rd Biggest Nollywood Opening of All Time, Biggest Non-December Nollywood Opening Weekend of All Time, Biggest October Opening Weekend of All Time
When official opening-weekend figures were tallied, Agbara Nla: The Return reached ₦170.6 million from 28,468 admissions. The total combined the preview earnings of ₦71.4 million with ₦99.8 million earned between Friday and Sunday. The three-day weekend alone produced 16,223 admissions.
The result ranked as the third-biggest Nollywood opening of all time, behind Everybody Loves Jenifa and Behind the Scenes. It also became the biggest non-December Nollywood opening weekend on record and the biggest October opening weekend of all time.

What the Coming Weeks Could Hold
The opening frame is only the first part of the run. Daily earnings already climbed through the weekend, which suggests audiences still arriving as the days went on. Nollywood films with strong openings have often grown their opening weekend several times over by the end of their run. Faith-based films tend to collect more of their audience early, so a multiple of three to four times is a cautious estimate. That would put Agbara Nla between ₦500 million and ₦700 million in Nigerian cinemas. On that pace, ₦300 million looks reachable within the second week, and ₦500 million by the end of October. These are projections, and the second and third weekends will show whether the film follows this path.
In Summary
A story that began with lost tapes and modest production values in the late 1980s has now measured its reach in cinema admissions and multi-million-naira weekends. What Agbara Nla has shown so far is that readiness can be very large when the audience grew up with the story and finds it in a cinema decades later.
