Rixel Studios, the production company behind the 2025 release Red Circle, is preparing its second feature, Black Market, for a debut that extends well beyond a standard screening. The event at Tafawa Balewa Square will serve as both the film’s premiere and an official attempt to surpass the current Guinness World Record for the largest attendance at a film screening in a single location. That record stands at 43,624, set in 2015 by the Philippine film Felix Manalo at the Philippine Arena.
The film centers on five market women navigating fuel scarcity and economic pressures in Nigeria. They operate a structured cross-border smuggling network, each member fulfilling a defined role that keeps the operation running smoothly. When a rival kidnaps the daughter of one woman, Adesua, the group confronts a high-stakes crisis that tests their loyalty and survival. The story draws from familiar Nigerian realities of trade, hardship, and resilience, aiming to deliver a thriller grounded in local contexts.
Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman leads the cast as Zimuzo, with Omowunmi Dada as Adesua (the mother), Scarlet Gomez as Aramide, Teniola Aladese as Folake, and Susan Pwajok as Jumai. Lateef Adedimeji portrays the rival, Junior. The ensemble also includes Itele D Icon, Uzor Arukwe, Folagade Banks, Tomiwa Tegbe, Andrew Yaw Bunting, Shamz Garuba, and Adeoluwa Akintoba.
Fatimah Binta Gimsay directs and co-writes the screenplay with Abdul Tijani-Ahmed. Production took place in Abeokuta, with Rixel Studios collaborating with FilmOne Entertainment and Signet Ring Studios. Nora Awolowo and Nicole Ofoegbu serve as producers, while executive producers include representatives from the partner companies as well as some cast members such as Omowunmi Dada and Susan Pwajok. Switch Visuals Productions handles the large-scale event logistics.
