After IK Osakioduwa hosted every edition since 2013, the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards has turned to comedian Bovi Ugboma and actress Nomzamo Mbatha for the 12th ceremony.

The announcement, made in late April 2026, highlights a deliberate shift for the awards, which recognize achievements in African film, television, and digital content. Organizers described the pairing as combining Bovi’s sharp wit and stage command with Mbatha’s international profile and advocacy work.

Bovi Ugboma is a well-established comedian, actor, writer, and producer known for projects such as Visa on Arrival and Back to School. He has performed extensively across Africa and internationally and brings experience hosting large events. In statements following the announcement, he emphasized the responsibility of the role and his intent to deliver energy and substance suitable for celebrating African storytelling.

Nomzamo Mbatha is an actress, producer, and humanitarian recognized for roles in Coming 2 America and the series Shaka iLembe, where she also served as executive producer. She holds qualifications as an accountant, serves as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, and has been featured on lists such as TIME 100 Next. Her involvement adds a continental dimension and aligns with the awards’ aim to reflect broader African excellence.

The 12th edition took place on May 9, 2026, at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, following nominations announced in late March. Films such as Gingerrr and The Herd led the nominations. Veteran actress Joke Silva chaired the judging panel. The ceremony featured 32 categories and included merit awards for figures like Sola Sobowale and Kanayo O. Kanayo.

This hosting change represents one of the most visible updates in the AMVCA’s history. IK Osakioduwa had become closely associated with the event’s identity over more than a decade. The new duo’s selection reflects efforts to refresh the show while maintaining focus on the content and honorees.

In Summary

The 12th AMVCA marked the end of an era with Bovi Ugboma and Nomzamo Mbatha stepping in as hosts on May 9 in Lagos.  This transition provides a point to observe how the AMVCA evolves its public face while continuing to spotlight work from across Africa.
