Bukky Wright Eyes 2026 Box Office Return As Omotara Johnson Parts 1 & 2 Hit YouTube

The Story⚡

Omotara Johnson is one of those Yoruba films that people never quite stopped talking about. Nearly two decades after its release, Bukky Wright is putting it back on screens, this time on YouTube, and not without reason.

Tell Me More

Released in 2008, Omotara Johnson was one of the most-watched Yoruba films of its time. The film centres on Omotara Johnson, played by Bukky Wright, a woman with a deep hatred for men and a relentless appetite for getting what she wants, regardless of who stands in her way. She covets her best friend Kemi Ajibodu’s fiancé, Tunde Bamgbopa, and her pursuit of him leads to a trail of betrayal, manipulation, and murder. She eventually lands in prison, receives a pardon through a powerful chief, and briefly turns over a new leaf, only to find herself tangled in fresh consequences.

The cast included Chidi Mokeme, Adebayo Salami, Jide Kosoko, Toyin Alausa, Femi Brainard, Yomi Fash-Lanso, Akin Lewis, Eniola Badmus, Iyabo Ojo, and Toyin Abraham, among others. The character of OJ landed in a way that few female Nollywood roles of that period did; audiences found her infuriating and compelling in equal measure, and the film has held its place in conversations about that generation of Yoruba cinema ever since.

Now, Bukky Wright is putting the original films in front of a new audience, and the timing is intentional. Omotara Johnson Parts 1 and 2 are currently streaming on BukkyWrightTV, her YouTube channel. It is a way of reintroducing the character, letting both returning fans and newer viewers get acquainted with OJ before what comes next.

Bukky Wright has confirmed that The Return of Omotara Johnson has already been shot and is currently in post-production in the UK, describing it as potentially her biggest project yet. Streaming the originals on YouTube ahead of that release makes sense as a strategy; it rebuilds context, stirs up the conversation, and gives the sequel an audience that is already invested.

Bukky Wright, using her own YouTube channel to drive the rollout of this project, fits her approach, someone who has spent enough time in the industry to know how to manage her own work on her own terms.

Tangent

In the DVD-dominated era of early 2000s Nollywood, when most films bypassed cinemas entirely and reached viewers through affordable VCDs and DVDs sold in markets like Idumota and Alaba, distributed via video clubs and home rentals, Omotara Johnson stood out as a multi-part production that combined intense character drama with action-thriller elements.
Bukky Wright’s portrayal of a bold, obsessive, and at times unhinged woman willing to cross every boundary to pursue what she wanted proved memorable in a landscape where strong, complex female leads in such genres were still relatively uncommon, helping the film become a household title that many families watched repeatedly on physical media.

In Summary

Streaming the originals on YouTube is Bukky Wright’s way of making sure no one shows up to the sequel cold.  Omotara Johnson Parts 1 and 2 are now showing on BukkyWrightTV on YouTube. The return of OJ is coming to the big screens, and we are eagerly anticipating it.
