Tell Me More

The Masterclass with Chris Odeh (MCWCO), a prestigious training initiative for African film and TV producers, has concluded its 5th edition, leaving an indelible mark on the continent’s filmmaking landscape. This year’s program, which took place over 7 days, brought together 16 carefully selected African participants to learn from renowned producer Chris Odeh and other industry experts.
MCWCO 5.0 pioneered a unique approach, dedicating each day to one of the 7M’s of filmmaking, developed by Chris Odeh. The curriculum also included sessions on strategic partnerships, effective leadership, self-management, and adapting to industry trends and changes. The masterclass was held at a venue with limited internet connectivity to foster collaboration, allowing participants to connect with peers and engage in meaningful discussions.
Participants praised the masterclass for its transformative impact. Sonia John from Lagos, Nigeria, described it as “a treasure trove of knowledge” that renewed her passion for storytelling. Issa Masadde Yusuf from Kampala, Uganda, hailed it as “an eye-opening experience” that provided valuable insights into the filmmaking process. Oprah Onyeador from Lagos, Nigeria, praised Chris Odeh for “breaking down producing principles” and sharing his life experiences.
Participants refined their skills in budgeting, pitching ideas, navigating the marketplace, and understanding film business dynamics. They also learned the importance of taking initiative and producing their own films, regardless of scale.
