Wunmi Toriola’s cinema debut as a producer, Queen Lateefah, has become the highest-grossing Nollywood title of 2024 so far, grossing N289 million marking a significant milestone in her filmmaking career and closing out the October box office window.

Queen Lateefah, co-produced by Captain of the Sea Productions, is currently turning heads as 2024’s highest-grossing Nollywood film dethroned Kayode Kasum’s Ajosepo which held the rank with N257.25M in ticket sales. 

Directed by Adeoluwa Owu, the film tells the story of Lateefah Adeleke, a businesswoman who strives to elevate her social status, only to have her facade shattered when she meets Jide Rhodes, a successful businessman who challenges her self-image.

This rom-com’s success has not only made it the top-earning film of the year but also the most successful romantic comedy in Nollywood, with a star-studded cast featuring Wunmi Toriola, Kunle Remi, Femi Adebayo, Nancy Isime, and Broda Shaggi.

5. Joker: Folie à Deux

Joker: Folie à Deux is a 2024 psychological thriller with a musical twist, directed by Todd Phillips, and serves as a sequel to the acclaimed Joker (2019). In Jerry Ossai’s latest thriller, a desperate man storms a bank, taking staff and customers hostage in a frantic attempt to resolve his delayed transaction. Unbeknownst to him, a notorious gang also has plans to rob the same bank, leading to a tense and chaotic standoff. The star-studded cast includes Nollywood actors such as Bolaji Ogunmola, Deyemi Okanlawon, Femi Adebayo, Nancy Isime, and more. Released on October 18th, 2024, the film opened to strong box office numbers, grossing N10.1 million in just a few days.

3.Farmers Bride

Set in 1980s Ibadan, Jack’enneth Opukeme and Adebayo Tijani deliver a captivating drama about a wealthy but lonely farmer who marries a young bride, Funmi, in search of companionship. Their marriage, however, quickly becomes troubled as Funmi, dissatisfied with her life, begins a secretive and dangerous affair. Starring Mercy Aigbe, Tobi Bakre, and Femi Branch, the film explores themes of love, loneliness, and betrayal. Released on September 27th, 2024, it resonated with audiences and went on to gross an impressive N133.5 million in just three weeks.
