The Story⚡
In the dim underbelly of a Nigerian community, a brother’s abduction pulls a family into a web of militant forces and ancient rituals. As whispers of dark magic echo through hidden groves, a desperate search uncovers a covenant binding the living to the lost—where resurrection comes at the cost of blood, and justice demands confronting shadows that refuse to stay buried.
Tell Me More
‘The Covenant’ emerges as VSL Media’s inaugural foray into limited-series production, a shift from their established track record in feature films. Created by Vincent Okonkwo, a producer known for blending Nigerian cultural narratives with tense drama, the series marks a deliberate expansion into serialized storytelling. Principal photography began in February 2024 in southern Nigeria, capturing the region’s lush yet foreboding landscapes to ground the narrative in authentic locales.

Directed by Dimeji Ajibola, the series unfolds as an action-thriller centered on familial bonds tested by abduction and occult intrigue. Cinematographer Peter Moloto lenses the visuals, emphasizing stark contrasts between modern urban edges and ritualistic depths. Moloto’s framing highlights the interplay of light and shadow, underscoring themes of hidden threats and moral ambiguity.

The ensemble cast draws from Nollywood’s seasoned performers, lending depth to roles that navigate personal vendettas and collective secrets. These include Gideon Okeke, Zubby Michael, Sola Sobowale, Uzee Usman, Ivie Okujaye, Tope Olowoniyan, Segun Arinze, Bimbo Manuel, Walter Anga, Chioma Okafor, Joseph Momodu, and Ray Okafor.

At its core, the narrative follows a protagonist’s pursuit of a kidnapped sibling, unraveling a network of militant groups intertwined with ritualistic practices. This fusion of grounded action—gunfights, chases—and supernatural undercurrents examines loyalty, the perils of forbidden knowledge, and the erosion of community under external pressures.
Distributed by Film Distribution BP, Okonkwo’s vision, informed by his engineering background and media ventures, prioritizes character arcs over spectacle, allowing cultural rituals to inform rather than overshadow the human stakes.
In Summary
The Covenant arrives on Netflix on December 12.
