Ope Ajayi’s Captain of the Sea Productions to Premiere “The Party” Series on Netflix May 30

The Story

Ope Ajayi’s three-part series, The Party, will premiere on Netflix. Here’s all you need to know.

Tell Me More

The Party is a three-part murder mystery series that tells the story of how everyone becomes a suspect when a young, successful, newly married man dies an unexpected and dramatic death.

Shot in 2023, the film stars a lineup of A-list Nollywood actors, including Shaffy Bello, Bimbo Manuel, Yomi Fash-Lanso, Chief Femi Branch, Segun Arinze, Chukwuka Jude, Kehinde Bankole, Mide Martins, Kunle Remi, Ayoola Ayolola, James Gardiner, Uzor Arukwe, and others. The series showcases brilliant performances by Tope Olowoniyan, Ben Touitou, Ray Adeka, and introduces Eva Ibiam in a standout debut.

Interestingly, The Party was originally conceived as a feature-length movie. However, after being acquired by Netflix, it was restructured into a three-part series.

It’s also worth noting that The Party marks the first fully independent production by Ope Ajayi and Captain of the Sea Productions. Unlike previous projects that may have involved partnerships with external production companies, this one is solely helmed, financed, and distributed by Ajayi’s own outfit. This development highlights a growing shift in the industry, where creators are increasingly assuming multiple roles, from content creation to distribution.

In this case, Ope Ajayi serves as creator, executive producer, and distributor under one roof. The production’s vertical integration, where a single entity oversees major stages of the process, reflects how independent studios are now managing their own profit and loss structures more strategically. It allows for greater creative control, streamlined decision-making, and ensures that revenue flows directly to the originating company rather than being split across multiple partners. It’s a strong signal of how the market is evolving and how ownership models are being redefined.

With excitement, Ope Ajayi shared the news of the series’ release on his social media page. He mentioned that the Netflix series is one that will keep the audience guessing about the culprit. In his words, “You’ll never be able to guess who did it.”

He further added, “The performances are perhaps one of my favourite things about the series. Everyone brought their A-game!”

The Party is produced by Judith Audu and directed by Yemi ‘Filmboy’ Morafa.

The series will premiere on Netflix on May 30, 2025.

In Summary

With its star-packed cast and suspenseful plot, The Party is set to become a standout addition to Nigeria’s growing catalogue of must-watch thrillers on Netflix. As the countdown to May 30 begins, viewers can look forward to a rollercoaster of twists, drama, and unforgettable performances. Don’t miss it.
