Taiwo Egunjobi Concludes Filming For Co-Produced Feature “The Fire and the Moth”

The producers that brought you “A Green Fever” have teamed up again to make a brand new picture that brings audiences inside a man’s tumultuous path to make ends meet.

Set in a harsh western Nigerian town, The Fire and the Moth follows how a desperate smuggler’s escape with a rare Ife bronze head sparks a violent upheaval, dragging the town into a maelstrom of corruption and brutality.

Tayo Faniran leads the crime drama, with Olarotimi Fakunle, Ini Dinma Okojie, and Haitian actor Jimmy Jean-Louis, among others set to appear.

The film is directed by Taiwo Egunjobi, produced by Eniola Fagbenle, and written by Isaac Ayodeji. Okwong Fadamana serves as the director of photography.

Key Background

Taiwo Egunjobi is a Nigerian screenwriter and film director with a B.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Ibadan. His filmmaking journey began as an undergraduate, producing short films, and he later established himself in the Nigerian film industry by writing screenplays for notable films such as Gidi Blues, The Grudge, and Sidi Ilujinle, collaborating with renowned directors Femi Odugbemi and Tunde Kelani.

Egunjobi draws inspiration from filmmakers Yasujuro Ozu, Tunde Kelani, and Quentin Tarantino. His short film, Crushed Roses, was adapted from Ibiere Addey’s novelette. Egunjobi’s debut feature film, In Ibadan, premiered at the Zuma Film Festival in December 2020 and earned a nomination for Best Actor, winning Best Film at the Kwara Film Festival. His second feature, All Na Vibes, opened the Nollywood Week in Paris Film Festival in March 2021 and screened at the International African Film Festival in Argentina in October 2021. His third feature, A Green Fever, premiered at the African International Film Festival in December 2023.

Sable Production is in a co-production partnership with Nemsia Studios and has been able to yield a first and second motion picture, A Green Fever and The Fire and the Moth, respectively 

Nemsia Studios is currently working with emerging producers and directors to make films that will fill its 12-slate deal with Prime Video for a duration of two years. This licensing deal remains intact despite Amazon Prime Video’s recent budget cuts for African and Middle Eastern content.

According to a leaked email, the new focus of Prime Video is on European originals, which has led to significant budget reductions for local productions in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, and North Africa. 

In Summary

The Fire and the Moth will be released on prime video and marks director Taiwo Egunjobi’s second film under this co-production, following  A Green Fever.
