Son of the Soil Arrives in U.S. Theaters March 6 After Pan-African Film Festival Premiere

After a celebrated festival run and multiple awards, the UK-Nigerian action thriller Son of the Soil is now heading to U.S. cinemas, giving North American audiences their first chance to see it on the big screen, starting March 6.

Son of the Soil, directed by Chee Keong Cheung, will open in select U.S. markets on March 6, following its U.S. premiere and official selection at the Pan-African Film Festival (February 16–22). Nile Entertainment and Action Xtreme, in partnership with Aloha Releasing, are handling the rollout, starting in New York, Washington DC, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, and Indianapolis, with additional major markets to follow.

The film follows Zion Ladejo (Razaaq Adoti), a former Nigerian Special Ops paratrooper who returns home after his sister’s death and becomes entangled in a violent confrontation with organised crime. It features a strong ensemble cast including Patience Ozokwo, Ireti Doyle, Taye Arimoro, Sunshine Rosman, Damilola Ogunsi, Emeka Golden, Sharon Rotimi, and newcomer Ijelu Folajimi.

Produced by Action Xtreme and Sovereign in association with Lagos-based Boxonia Blueprint, the film has been recognised for its grounded storytelling and cinematic quality. It has already secured multiple honours, including Best Overall Film, Best Director, and Best International Showcase at the Black Star International Film Festival, the Audience Choice Award at AFRIFF, and three awards from seven nominations at the Best of Nollywood Awards.

Director Chee Keong Cheung said, “The U.S theatrical release is another huge milestone for Son of the Soil. We’ve always believed this story could travel globally, and it’s exciting to be able to bring it to American cinemas after such a strong festival journey.”
