Patrick Diabuah’s Theatre Trailblazer Honor Celebrates a Journey of Courage

The Story ⚡

Patrick Diabuah continues to stand as one of the most significant performers of his generation, a distinction recently reaffirmed with his recognition as a Theatre Trailblazer at the Lagos International Theatre Festival (LITF).

For more than a decade, Patrick has been a central figure in contemporary Nigerian theatre. With over 50 stage productions to his name, he remains deeply connected to the craft that shaped him. He often describes himself as “a thespian first,” a philosophy that is evident in the honesty and presence he brings to every performance. Despite his extensive screen success, Patrick continues to return to the stage, reaffirming his belief that theatre remains the foundation of his artistic expression.

His influence, however, stretches far beyond theatre. Patrick has delivered memorable performances in several widely recognised Nigerian films and television projects, including 93 Days, Close of Business, Banana Island Ghost, The Wives, Seven, Ile Owo, and the acclaimed Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti. His ability to navigate both stage and screen with equal depth has positioned him as a versatile, reliable, and evolving voice in the industry.

The LITF Theatre Trailblazer Award celebrates this extensive body of work, acknowledging not just Patrick’s talent but the integrity and discipline that define his career. In his acceptance remarks, he expressed gratitude, saying, “This award really means a lot to me, and I thank God my art keeps paving the way for me.” He also extended appreciation to Bolanle Austen-Peters, BAP Productions, his supporters, and his management at Takeone Talent.

The Theatre Trailblazer recognition from LITF captures what Patrick Diabuah represents: the audacity to transform pain into purpose, doubt into determination.

Speaking on his contribution to the industry, Heavens Obule, Co-Founder and Head of Productions at Takeone Productions, noted, “Patrick’s dedication to his art is inspiring. His growth, consistency, and authenticity make him a standout talent. We are honoured to represent him and proud of the impact he continues to make.”

Abiodun Odu, Creative Director and Co-Founder at Takeone Productions, added, “Patrick is a once-in-a-generation kind of talent. His emotional depth, his discipline, and his fearless approach to both stage and screen storytelling set him apart. This award reflects the path he has already carved and offers only a glimpse of how far he is still going.”

Patrick’s achievement also speaks to the ongoing work of Takeone Talent in developing and positioning actors for impactful careers across the creative landscape. His success, both on stage and on screen, exemplifies the agency’s commitment to guiding performers whose craft can stand confidently on any platform.
