Nollywood’s September 2024 Slate: Exciting New Releases

The month of September is filled with Nollywood blockbuster movies. Here’s an overview:

Life and Dirt Series

Life and Dirt was written by Bovi and directed by James Abinibi. It tells the story of two men who plot a get-rich-quick scheme, but there are obstacles on the way. The cast includes Chidi Mokeme, Bovi Ugboma, Shola Fapson, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Shaffy Bello, Uzor Arukwe and many others.

Life and Dirt is currently showing exclusively on Prime Video.

 

Visa on Arrival S5 finale

Visa on Arrival was created by Bovi Ugboma exclusively for Accelerate TV. The comedy series tells the story of four immigration officers with contrasting personalities who decide the fates of visa applicants: religious fanatic Charity (Oluwatoyin Albert), bribe-taking Okoro (Taymesan Emmanuel), narcissist Francis (Bovi Ugboma), and no-nonsense Hope (Anita Asuoha).

The cast has featured supporting talents like Uzoamaka Onuoha, Chioma Okafor, Ogbolu Bobby, Shaffy Bello, Sophia Alakija, Ramsey Noah and others.

Visa on Arrival started its first series with over a million views and has progressed into its fifth series (grand finale) to be released on September 6th.

Last Year Single

Last Year Single was written by Joy Bewaji and produced by Omoni Oboli.  This is a story about three inseparable friends who, unhappy with their love lives, navigate the ups and downs of romance and finances while supporting each other.

The film features the following: Bimbo Ademoye, Omoni Oboli, Toni Tones, Abiola Segun Williams, Mawuli Gavor, Onyekachi Nnochiri, Oluchi Osimkpa, Taye Arimoro, Karibi Fubara, Chy Nwakanma and many others.

Last Year Single will be streaming exclusively on Netflix from 6th September 2024.

Ajaga

Directed Remi Ibinola, Ajaga tells the story of tells the story of a pastor wrestling with his own moral failings, particularly his womanizing tendencies. The movie explore themes of hypocrisy and personal conflict within a religious context.

The movie features Nollywood talents such as Carol King, Femi Jacobs, Jaiye Kuti, Jayeola Monje, Olori Ewatomi, Thompson Eseoghene, Tope Olowoniyan and others.

Ajaga hits the cinemas nationwide on 6th September.

The Blackmail

A struggling actor’s career and family are put in jeopardy when cyber-criminals attempt to blackmail him over his internet history. The cast includes O.C Ukeje, Alessandro Babalola, Julia Holden, Natalia N, Ivan Papovec, Francés Walker, Jelena Borovskaja, Judy Akuta, Raquel Appiah, Hannah B, and Samantha Bailey.

Written and produced by Obi Emelonye, The Blackmail is set for a release exclusively on Prime Video on 12th September.

When Love Strikes

When Love Strikes is a film that explores the universal appeal of football and the true meaning of ‘the beautiful game’ through the eyes of a gifted young player.

Directed by Adeoluwa Owu and produced by Inkblot productions, When Love Strikes features Osas Ighodaro, Natse Jemide, Bimbo Akintola, Zubby Michael, Sunshine Rosman, Jimmie Akinsola, Vine Olugu, Chuks Joseph, Demola Adedoyin, Taye Arimoro, and Suo Chapele.

When Love Strikes debuts in cinemas across Nigeria on September 13.

Offshoot

Offshoot was produced by Oluwatoyin Adewumi and Benjami Adeniran and directed by Ugandan filmmaker Ayeny T. Steve.

Kehinde Bankole plays the lead role with supporting cast such as Ibrahim Suleiman, Kelechi Udegbe, Greg ‘Teddy Bear’ Ojefua, Bimbo Manuel, David Jones David, Tomiwa Sage, Vera Ephraim, Nonso Odogwu, Fausat Balogun ‘Madam Saje’, Salisu Danjuma Gezawa, Princess Kossi and others.

Offshoot was initially released to cinemas nationwide on 14th June and it heads over to the streaming platform on 26th September 2024.

Queen Lateefah

Queen Lateefah is Wumi Toriola’s newest project directed by Adeoluwa Owu.

The cast includes talents such as Lateef Adedimeji, Kunle Remi, Bukunmi Adeaga, Wumi Toriola, Femi Adebayo, Broda Shaggi, Fathia Williams, Nancy Isime, Fausat Balogun, Elvina Ibru, Enioluwa Adeoluwa, Aishat Lawal, Salami Rotimi, Bimbo Manuel and many others.

Queen Lateefah heads for cinema debut this September 27th.

Lisabi

Directed by Niyi Akinmolayan and produced by Lateef Adedimeji, Lisabi tells the story of a famous Yoruba hero whose life made a lasting impression in Nigerian history.

Lisabi features Femi Adebayo, Ibrahim Chatta, Liquorose, Odunlade Adekola, Mo Bimpe, Itele D Icon and Lateef Adedimeji.

Lisabi: The Uprising hits the cinema on 27th September.

Farmer Bride

Farmer’s Bride was directed by Adebayo Tijani and Jack’enneth Opukeme. The movie is a poignant tale set in 1980s Ibadan, following the life of Odun, a wealthy but lonely farmer who marries a young bride, Funmi, in search of solace. Their marriage, however, is plagued by challenges as Funmi, unable to find happiness, embarks on a forbidden affair with Odun’s nephew.

The cast features Tobi Bakre, Gbubemi Ejeye, Femi Branch, Mercy Aigbe, Efe Irele, and Wumi Toriola.

Famer’s Bride prepares for cinema debut on 27th September.
