1. Highest Single Day Gross
Interestingly, Everybody Loves Jenifa has a trailblazing record of having the highest gross in a single day. This happened on the 26th of December, which happened to be the boxing day and the title’s fourth day at the box office. That day, it earned ₦106.61 million. While the day being a holiday contributed to the success of the film that day, the fact that the flick attracted its own followers cannot but be mentioned.
2. Highest-Grossing Nollywood Title of 2024
Among the many records that have been set by the title, it is worth noting that Everybody Loves Jenifa is the highest-grossing Nollywood film this year. As of the 29th of December, which happened to be the last weekend of the box office this year, the film has grossed a whopping ₦1.03 billion. This is just in seventeen days.
3. Second ₦1 Billion Nollywood Movie of All Time
Following the release of Funke Akindele’s last box office film, A Tribe Called Judah, on the 15th of December, 2023, the title went ahead to become the first Nigerian film to go beyond the ₦1 billion margin. After its theatrical run, it grossed a total of ₦1.40 billion. Just a year after the release of that title, Funke Akindele has broken her own record with her newest film, Everbody Loves Jenifa. The comedy title crossed the ₦1 billion margin in its third weekend at the cinema.
4. Eyes on ₦5 Billion
During a presentation of the title to the public sometime this month, the producer and co-director of the film, Funke Akindele, mentioned that the box office projection of the film is ₦5 billion. Considering the fact that no Nollywood title has grossed anything close to that number in the history of cinema in Nigeria, the projection might seem lofty. However, it will be fascinating to see a Nigeria title hit the mark. But can Everybody Loves Jenifa be that title? Gazes are up to see events unfold.
