Here are the top 10 most-watched titles that dominated Showmax in Nigeria throughout 2024

Showmax has unveiled its top 10 most-streamed titles in Nigeria for 2024, based on unique viewership. Interestingly, eight of the ten titles are Nigerian productions, further solidifying Showmax as the go-to platform for homegrown entertainment.  

Among the standout favorites are Big Brother Naija Season 9 and Showmax Originals like Wura, Flawsome, and *he Real Housewives of Lagos Season 2. International hits Game of Thrones and its prequel House of the Dragon also secured spots on the list. Notably, RHOLagos Season 2 set a new first-day streaming record, surpassing its debut season as the most-watched Showmax Original on launch day in Nigeria. Meanwhile, the Showmax Original movie Dead Serious, part of the platform’s relaunch lineup in February, also made the cut. Here’s a look at the top 10 most-watched titles Nigerians streamed in 2024, listed in alphabetical order. 

Big Brother Naija S9 (Series)

The highly anticipated ninth season of Big Brother Naija delivered everything fans love, fierce competition, high-stakes drama, and non-stop entertainment as housemates battled for the grand prize.  

Adding to the excitement, Toke Makinwa returned as the host of BBNaija: The Buzz, the exclusive talk show where celebrity guests and top commentators break down major moments from the season, share unfiltered opinions, and make bold predictions. It was released to Showmax on the 28th of July 2024.

 

Dead of Night (Movie)

In a quiet, forgotten town, a young woman and her friends make a reckless decision to break into an abandoned house, hoping for an easy score. But their night takes a terrifying turn when they realize the house isn’t empty and whatever lurks inside isn’t entirely human.  

Dead of Night is helmed by director Chiemeka Osuagwu , known for his work on Far From Home (2022), Blood Covenant (2022), and A Weekend to Forget (2023). The horror thriller  was released on the 22nd of March 2024 and it features Kunle Idowu, widely recognized as Frank Donga, a three-time AMVCA nominee for Best Actor in a Comedy (2015, 2023) and Best Supporting Actor (2018).

 

Dead Serious (Movie)

Directed by Moses Inwang, this romantic comedy brings together an exciting cast, including Sharon Ooja, Sabinus, Deyemi Okanlawon, and the legendary Nkem Owoh.  

At the center of the story is Jonny, a man devastated by tragedy. In his despair, he makes several comically failed attempts to end his life, only to stumble upon unexpected moments of joy, love, and the beauty that life still has to offer. It was made available for screening on Showmax on 23rd February 2024.

 

 

Flawsome (Series)

Flawsome dives into the intertwined lives of four driven women Ifeyinwa, Ramat, Ivie, and Dolapo as they juggle career ambitions, personal struggles, and the everyday challenges of being a woman in contemporary Nigeria.  

More than just a story of friendship, the series unpacks themes of resilience, societal expectations, and the realities of a patriarchal world. It started streaming on Showmax on 10 November 2022 and it Stars  Bisola Aiyeola, Ini Dima-Okojie, Sharon Ooja, and Enado Odigie, Flawsome has captivated audiences with its compelling storytelling. Both Season 1 and Season 2 are now streaming on Showmax.

 

 

Game of Thrones (Series)
