Key Insight

Jade Osiberu, a renowned multihyphenate, has officially confirmed her exit from her three-year deal with Amazon Studios. The deal, which was signed through her production company Greoh Studios, aimed to produce scripted TV series and feature films.
The news of her exit comes after Amazon Studios announced its decision to back off from African investments, including the development of original African stories featuring African talent. This move was first reported in early January and has been met with disappointment from industry players like Osiberu.
Despite the setback, Osiberu remains optimistic about the future of Nollywood, expressing her belief that the industry will survive and thrive regardless of the challenges it faces. In a recent viral video, she teased that she is working on two new series, hinting that one of them may be set in the same universe as her critically acclaimed film “Gangs of Lagos”
Jade Osiberu’s exit from her Amazon Studios deal marks a new chapter in her career and for her production company, Greoh Studios. She is now back in the market, free to explore new opportunities and partnerships that can help her grow as a producer.
This change could lead to new collaborations, including potential commissioned titles from Netflix. Such partnerships would enable Osiberu and Greoh Studios to bring new projects to life, showcasing their creative vision and expertise.
With this shift, Osiberu and Greoh Studios may also refocus on theatrical releases, bringing their productions to a wider audience and potentially gaining more creative control. By navigating this change, they can continue to thrive in the evolving media landscape, finding innovative ways to share African stories with global audiences

In Summary

In conclusion, Prime Video’s withdrawal from the African market is poised to significantly impact the demand for high-end productions.

The intense competition among streaming platforms has driven up demand for big-budget shows and movies, but Prime Video’s exit is likely to reverse this trend.

This is already evident in the fate of the 7 unproduced features under Greoh Studios’ deal, which is now uncertain due to the sudden departure of the streaming giant. As the industry adjusts to this new reality, it remains to be seen how Nollywood and other African productions will be affected and how they will adapt to the changing landscape.
