The Story ⚡
Gravel Road Distribution Group has opened its second cinema in under a year, this time in Harare, Zimbabwe, to provide local access to movies and events.

Tell Me More
Gravel Road Distribution Group, based in Cape Town, South Africa, specializes in the sales and distribution of filmed content, with a focus on the African market. The company imports international titles and supports African productions across various channels. In late 2024, it entered the cinema operation space by renovating and relaunching a venue in Hermanus, South Africa.

The site at Whale Coast Mall reopened on November 29, 2024, as Road House Cinema at Whale Coast. Renovations included replacing beanbag seating with tiered arrangements for improved viewing, a redesigned foyer with a retro style, an updated menu, and extended operating hours. The main auditorium features a stage and facilities suitable for corporate events, live performances, or concerts.

Nearly a year later, on November 7, 2025, Gravel Road opened Road House Cinema at Sam Levy’s Village in Borrowdale, Harare. This location occupies space previously used by Ster-Kinekor, which closed its operations there due to the landlord’s decision to repurpose the area. The new cinema operates seven days a week and includes modern audio and visual technology. It aims to serve as a venue for films, including blockbusters and independent titles, in a setting that combines comfort with local appeal.

The opening follows Gravel Road’s strategy to grow its presence in Africa, where cinema infrastructure varies widely. In Zimbabwe, for instance, access to screening venues for local films has been limited, often requiring permissions from international franchises. The company is now seeking partnerships elsewhere on the continent to establish additional sites.
In Summary
Road House Cinema currently operates in Hermanus, South Africa, and Harare, Zimbabwe, with plans for further expansion across Africa. Interested parties can contact Gravel Road Distribution Group directly for collaboration opportunities. This development adds to the entertainment options in Harare’s Borrowdale area, near shopping and dining hubs such as Sam Levy’s Village.
