Wizkid: Long Live Lagos

This HBO documentary follows Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Wizkid in the lead-up to his landmark Tottenham Hotspur Stadium concert in London, exploring his journey and the misrepresentations of African music in Western media. Directed by Karam Gill, it features Femi Anikulapo-Kuti, Jada Pollock, Julie Adenuga, and others reflecting on his impact. The film premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Festival. Streams from 26 December.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt in pursuit of a dangerous AI that has compromised global intelligence networks. The cast includes Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Angela Bassett, Hannah Waddingham, and Nick Offerman. Notable sequences include a Guinness World Record-setting burning-parachute jump filmed in the Drakensberg. The film was the ninth highest-grossing title of 2025 worldwide. Streams from 17 December.

The Chair Company S1

Tim Robinson co-created and stars in this HBO comedy as William Ronald Trosper, who stumbles into a sprawling conspiracy after a workplace incident. Currently ranked #3 on Rotten Tomatoes’ Best Shows of 2025 with a 100% critics’ score. First on Showmax; full season available from 1 December.

Novocaine

Jack Quaid plays Nathan Caine, an ordinary man who cannot feel pain and uses that condition to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend. Amber Midthunder co-stars. A US box-office number one with an 81% Rotten Tomatoes rating. Streams from 1 December.

Masinga – The Calling

In this Showmax Original, Hakeem Kae-Kazim plays an exiled detective forced to return home and confront the ritual murder of his albino brother while trying to save another child from the same fate. The cast includes Shamilla Miller, Abdul Khoza, Warren Masemola, and Fana Mokoena. Streams from 5 December.

Tiffany Haddish Goes Off

Six-part docuseries tracking Tiffany Haddish and her three childhood friends on a four-week trip across Africa, visiting Cape Town, Victoria Falls, and Zanzibar, among other places. New episodes every Thursday from 4 December; first on Showmax.

Watson S1

Morris Chestnut stars as Dr John Watson, now running a clinic for rare disorders months after Sherlock Holmes’s death, only to face old enemies, including Moriarty. Created by Craig Sweeny (Elementary) and already renewed for season two. Full season drops on 10 December.

Lockerbie: A Search For Truth

Colin Firth portrays Dr Jim Swire, a father turned victims’ spokesperson searching for answers after the 1988 bombing. Winner of Best Scripted Television at the 2025 BAFTA Scotland Awards. Full season available from 11 December.

The Night Before Christmas in Wonderland

Animated family film in which Father Christmas (voiced by Gerard Butler) and Alice try to restore Christmas after the Queen of Hearts (Emilia Clarke) bans it. Recommended for ages 5+ by Common Sense Media. Streams from 14 December.

The King of Kings

Animated retelling of the life of Jesus seen through a child’s imagination, voiced by Oscar Isaac as Jesus, with Kenneth Branagh, Ben Kingsley, Forest Whitaker, Mark Hamill, and Uma Thurman. Named Feature Film of the Year at the 2025 Dove Awards. Streams from 21 December.

Dear Santa

A spelling mistake in a child’s letter summons Jack Black as a mischievous devil instead of Santa. Directed by the Farrelly brothers; co-starring Keegan-Michael Key and Post Malone. Streams from 22 December.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds S3

Captain Pike, Spock, and the Enterprise crew return for new adventures. Already renewed for season four. First on Showmax; full season drops on 31 December.
