What happens when love, betrayal, survival, and dark humor collide in a single story? On August 29, 2025, Say Who Die? makes its highly anticipated debut on Prime Video. The title is a bold, genre-bending experience that promises to keep audiences engaged while tugging at their emotions.

The film follows a set of twins whose bond is tested by secrets, family dysfunction, and choices that spiral into chaos. Writer and producer Lani Aisida reveals that the inspiration was deeply personal. The characters are named after his late aunties, who were twins, and his own mother is also a twin. The story, he explains, mirrors the reality many people face today: pressures from family, the pull of migration dreams, betrayal, and the fragile nature of life itself. “Nearly everyone is navigating societal pressure, japa dreams, moral compromises, and even betrayal. This film mirrors these struggles and reminds us how fragile life is and how easily choices spiral out of control,” Aisida explains.

What makes Say Who Die? especially unique is its blend of genres. Aisida has long wanted to experiment with dark comedy, something rarely explored in Nigerian cinema, and here he merges it with family drama. The result is a story that shifts from tense suspense to absurd humor and then into raw, emotional conflict. For him, that unpredictability reflects the unpredictability of life itself. The themes of the story explore family and betrayal, identity and deception, courage and survival, raising questions about loyalty and resilience when tested by grief and loss.

Director Paul Utomi was drawn to the project for its story and for the chance to work with a passionate team. “Getting a chance to work with a group of talented individuals in front and behind camera who genuinely cared about the project is what excites me the most,” he says. Although he does not have a direct connection to the story, he relates to the family dynamics and sibling relationships at its center, especially since his own father is a twin. His directing style is grounded in collaboration and trust, ensuring that the cast could deliver their best work.

For the actors, the project offered both challenges and rewards. Oiza Abu, who plays Odion, says the film will resonate with movie lovers as well as anyone who has struggled with being misunderstood or compared to siblings. Playing her character forced her to confront insecurities tied to being a twin, and she describes certain scenes as emotionally heavy. Her sister, Meyi Abu, who plays Omon, echoes this sentiment, calling the role both fun and draining because it hits close to home. For both, the experience was also an opportunity to embrace acting more fully and to witness the beauty of filmmaking behind the scenes.

Baaj Adebule, who plays Jaja, was thrilled to take on a role unlike any he had played before. He describes the film’s energy as one that keeps audiences tense yet hopeful. For him, the collaboration with Aisida and Utomi was enough reason to sign on, but the genre sealed the deal. “Crime comedies are so sweet because I get to have my blood pumping while still having a good laugh,” he says, noting that the unpredictability of his role made the project all the more exciting.

Say Who Die? stars Oiza Abu, Meyi Abu, Baaj Adebule, Mike Afolarin, Toni Tetuila, Evaezi, Eve Bankong, Eva Ibiam, Folaremi Agunbiade, and Olakunle Fawole.
