“Colour Me True” Lands on Prime Video December 4th, the Tenth Release for First Features Project

The Story⚡

A celebrated reality TV star’s perfect life shatters the moment her real identity is exposed. She flees back to the orphanage she swore she’d never revisit — and discovers that some truths refuse to stay buried.

Tell Me More

Colour Me True, the tenth film from Nigeria’s groundbreaking First Features Project, arrives on Prime Video on 4 December 2024, introducing the feature directorial debut of award-winning writer Toluwani Obayan Osibe (This Lady Called Life).

Shalewa Ashafa leads as Sylvia Philips, a woman whose public persona collapses when her hidden past comes to light. Returning to the orphanage where her story began, she must finally confront the girl she left behind and decide which version of herself is worth keeping.

The cast includes Bucci Franklin, Eseosa Bernard, Nnamdi Agbo, and Gerard Adebija. Gideon Chukwu’s cinematography moves between the glossy shine of celebrity Lagos and the raw warmth of a forgotten childhood home, while Ava Momoh’s score deepens every emotional beat.

Toluwani Obayan Osibe wrote the script during a period of personal reckoning. “It started with a lack of honesty — first with myself, then with everyone else,” she says. “This film became my way of imagining what it feels like to finally face the truth.”

Producers Dotun Olakunri and Steve Gukas both describe the project as the perfect embodiment of what First Features was created to do: give emerging Nigerian filmmakers the mentorship and resources to tell authentic stories on a global stage. Ten films in, Colour Me True proves the initiative is working.

In Summary

Colour Me True premieres exclusively on Prime Video on 4 December 2024. Toluwani Obayan Osibe’s deeply personal debut, anchored by Shalewa Ashafa’s career-best performance, asks a question we all eventually face: when the life you’ve built no longer fits, do you have the courage to become who you actually are?
