“The Actor’s Chair”: Shock Africa Launches New Docu-Series On The Lives Of African Screen Talent

The Story⚡

A single actor sits in one chair for thirty minutes and talks openly about their full journey in African film, including training, setbacks, daily work, and the business side. That is the simple but direct idea behind Shock Africa’s new original docu-series, The Actor’s Chair.

Tell Me More

Shock Africa, the Lagos-based company known as Africa’s first dedicated news source for filmmakers, has created the series to give actors space to speak at length about their experiences. Each episode runs exactly 30 minutes and features only one guest.

The host is Akintunde Damilare, co-founder of Shock Africa and a film journalist with years of experience covering Nigerian cinema. The conversation covers what it means to work as an actor in Africa today – the personal commitment, the professional demands, and the practical realities of the industry.

Every episode follows the same five segments:

Pivotal Acting Points

Craft Journey

New Projects

Selling the Dream

Lights, Camera, Flags. This is a quiz in which the actor marks seven statements about lifestyle and industry topics as either a green flag or a red flag

Akintunde Damilare explained the thinking behind the show: “African actors have always been at the centre of any story. This show is finally letting them tell it.”

The first guest will be named on Friday, March 20, across Shock Africa’s platforms. The completed episode will be released on Sunday, March 22.

Shock Africa has previously produced the discussion series State of Nollywood Industry Table Talk and the interview format Stars and Pups. The Actor’s Chair continues that work by building a collection of recorded conversations that can be watched or listened to again later. The company describes the series as a record of the personal stories behind the growth of African cinema.

The series is aimed at Nollywood viewers, people working in film, and anyone thinking of starting an acting career in Africa. It focuses on the practical and personal sides of the job rather than red-carpet moments or short promotional interviews.

In Summary

The first episode of The Actor’s Chair will be released on Sunday, March 22, on YouTube.
