In Silence Is Loud, part of the Àjose: The Stories That Bind Us social impact initiative, Uzoamaka Aniunoh takes the lead role as Henrietta, a passionate single mother and high school teacher. When she observes her student Ayo withdrawing—marked by falling grades and rumors of HIV—Henrietta makes it her mission to safeguard the girl. Facing bullying at school and condemnation from Ayo’s father at home, Ayo finds quiet refuge with Henrietta.

Henrietta herself endures stigma, including being called a witch by colleagues, yet she persists in advocating for Ayo, engaging the school principal and Ayo’s family. Their relationship begins in shared trauma but grows into mutual strength, as both refuse silence in a culture shaped by shame around bullying, sexual health, and reproductive rights.

The cast includes Ozzy Agu, Judith Audu, and Sapphire Ekeng alongside Aniunoh. Directed and produced by Abba T. Makama, the film is written by Taspy Gomwalk and Dika Ofoma, with cinematography by Chukwuka ‘Fedworks’ Edeogu. Francis Nebot serves as executive producer, and the production comes from Osiris Film and Entertainment.

Known for surreal and satirical works such as Green White Green and The Lost Okoroshi, Makama took a different approach here. He adopted a minimalist style to highlight performance and emotion, marking his first directed feature without writing the script himself—though he collaborated closely with the writers.

Sapphire Ekeng shared her experience: “Working on Silence Is Loud was such an amazing experience! Everyone on set was so cool – my castmates were not just professional but really fun to be around. I feel so lucky to share the screen with such talented people. The crew made everything run so smoothly, and I’m honestly so proud to be part of a film that will touch hearts and inspire people going through abuse to speak up and stay strong for themselves and for others.”

In the story, Henrietta’s determination leads to a viral moment and a new job offer, leaving both women stronger and united in their resolve never to feel less than they are.
