The Story⚡

In the golden era of Yorubaland, where divine beings roam the earth, two young warriors race against the shadows of sin to preserve the light, or watch their world plunge into eternal darkness.

Tell Me More

Iyanu: The Age of Wonders serves as a thrilling prequel to the acclaimed animated series “Iyanu,” transporting audiences back 500 years to the pinnacle of Yorubaland’s magical civilization. This Nigerian superhero story, inspired by Yoruba mythology, follows protagonists Dara and Ishe as they confront Meje, a formidable entity embodying the seven deadly sins, who threatens to usher in an Age of Darkness. Their desperate quest hinges on allying with the Divine Ones—legendary guardians who maintain the delicate balance between light and shadow in this richly imagined world.

The film boasts an all-African voice cast, bringing authenticity and depth to its characters. Standouts include Shaffy Bello as Emi (The One Mother), Babajide Oyekunle as Joba (The First Father), Ike Ononye as Ishe, and Sisan Victor-Woko as Dara. Familiar voices from the series return, such as Serah Johnson as Iyanu, Okey Jude as Biyi, Samuel Kugbiyi as Toye, and Adesua Etomi-Wellington as Olori, bridging the prequel to the main storyline.

Created by Roye Okupe, who also directs and co-writes alongside Brandon Easton, the movie is produced by Lion Forge Entertainment—a Black-owned studio dedicated to diverse storytelling. It’s based on Okupe’s graphic novel series “Iyanu: Child of Wonder,” published by YouNeek Studios and Dark Horse Comics, which has garnered praise for blending African folklore with superhero tropes.

Executive producers include David Steward II, Stephanie Sperber, and others, ensuring a high-production value that highlights stunning animation and cultural richness. Announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, the film builds on the success of the “Iyanu” series, which premiered earlier in the year and captivated audiences with its empowering narrative of self-discovery and heroism.

In Summary

Iyanu: The Age of Wonders premieres on Cartoon Network on August 30th, followed by HBO Max on August 31st, and ShowMax in Africa on August 31st.
