Following the triumph of Tokunbo, which soared into Netflix’s Top 10 across over 50 countries and garnered over 5 million views in its first three days, BRS Studios is forging ahead with a dynamic 2025 film slate. Announced by the studio, founded in 2024 by Blue Pictures, Ramsey Films, and Sozo Films, the trio of Stitches, Iwa Akwa, and Dambe promises to elevate African storytelling with cultural depth and universal resonance. Led by co-founders Joy Efe Odiete, a leading distributor; Ramsey Nouah, a celebrated actor-director; and Chris Odeh, a prolific producer, BRS Studios aims to deliver authentic narratives that resonate locally and globally.
The slate, backed by a strategic partnership with MBO Capital, enhances BRS Studios’ capacity to produce and distribute high-quality films. Stitches, directed by Ghanaian filmmaker Shirley Frimpong-Manso, is set in Lagos and follows a talented fashion designer from a working-class background. Her ascent into elite social circles is tested by love and shadows from her past, exploring themes of ambition and identity. Iwa Akwa, a comedy-drama helmed by Nollywood veteran Ernest Obi, centers on a reserved university professor thrust into a royal role in his Igbo hometown after a crown prince’s sudden death.
The film blends humor and heart to examine family, duty, and cultural heritage. Dambe, directed by Ramsey Nouah, is a historical epic set in 11th-century Kano, tracing a young fighter’s coming-of-age through the Hausa martial art of Dambe boxing, delving into legacy and purpose.
Chris Odeh, co-founder and producer, emphasizes the studio’s vision: “These films are a statement that African cinema is limitless in scale, impact, and influence.” Ramsey Nouah, co-founder and creative director, adds, “We’re capturing Africa’s essence—bold, vibrant, and rooted in culture.” Joy Odiete, director of partnerships and distribution, underscores the global ambition:
“Through innovative filmmaking, we’re setting a new benchmark for Nollywood, telling African stories at a world-class standard.” Each film, grounded in distinct African experiences, reflects BRS Studios’ commitment to authenticity and innovation, building on Tokunbo’s success to redefine Nollywood’s creative landscape.
