Nigerian filmmaker and actor Seyi Akinsola brings to life a thrilling epic tale of royal succession and intrigue with the release of OGBEDUN, set to premiere across cinemas in Nigeria on November 29, 2024.
Directed by Farouk Abisoye (TAMPAN), the film follows the gripping tale of Ogbedun, the unacknowledged son of the late Oba Agana, born from a secret affair with a palace maid. After spending years in exile, Ogbedun returns to his homeland amidst a power struggle for the throne. With the town thrown into chaos following the sudden death of a young monarch, rival families engage in a fierce battle for supremacy, sparking betrayal, riots, and the unyielding quest for justice.
Nollywood veteran Jide Awobona, known for his powerful performances in Lisabi: The Uprising and Jenifa’s Diary, leads the ensemble cast as Ogbedun. He is joined by an outstanding lineup of Nollywood stars, including Jide Kosoko, Antar Laniyan, Akin Lewis, Seyi Akinsola, Joke Muyiwa, Miriam Peters, and Babaseun Faseru, who all bring this high-stakes royal drama to life.
The film is executive produced by celebrated actor and filmmaker Seyi Akinsola, through his production company, Astrocraft Productions. Akinsola, who also stars in the film, continues to raise the bar for Nollywood storytelling. In his own words, Akinsola shared, “Ogbedun reflects a core principle I live by, that no matter how many people support wrongdoing no matter how well-placed those people are, good will always prevail, even when victory seems improbable.”
The film is distributed by Tribe Nation Theatrical Distribution Limited, renowned for successfully bringing Nollywood blockbusters like Force Empire and Trepidation to local and international audiences. Tribe Nation’s involvement ensures that OGBEDUN will reach a broad spectrum of moviegoers across Nigeria and beyond.
