Tell Me More
As the Nigerian film industry enters into the 4th quarter, all eyes are on the box office numbers to see if the tried-and-true Wives on Strike franchise can buck the trend and deliver a winning performance.
Wives on Strike was directed and produced by Omoni Oboli in 2016. The movie is a comedy-drama film about a group of market women who denied their husbands sex to get them to support a young girl whose father forced her to marry a man against her choice.
The film featured several Nollywood talents including Chioma Akpotha, Ufuoma McDermott, Kehinde Bankole, Kalu Ikeagwu, Julius Agwu, Omoni Oboli and Sola Sobowale. Wives on Strike made a total of N66.7m at the box office in 2016.
Omoni Oboli went ahead to release a new instalment of the film in 2018 titled Wives on Strike: The Revolution. With the introduction of a new cast such as Odunlade Adekola, Toyin Abraham, Kenneth Okonkwo and Elvina Ibru, Omoni continued the film with the story of the market women from the prequel, Wives on Strike, who were already battling against domestic abuse after one of them is killed by her husband, which prompts another strike by the women against their husbands. With their rallying call; “want some sex?”, then speak up against domestic violence, the women were able to force the hands of their husbands to stand up for what is right and curb domestic violence.
After the successful attempt at two instalments of the Wives on Strike movie, Omoni Oboli yet again announces the release date of the third sequel titled Wives on Strike: The Uprising. The new series includes a new cast such as Hilda Dokubo, Okey Bakasi, Bukunmi Adeaga, May Yul-Edochie, Segun Arinze, Femi Branch, Sani Danja, Emeka Okoye, Tomiwa Tegbe and Folaremi Agunbiade.
As the box office market gets more intense, Omoni Oboli makes a theatrical release of this new series Wives on Strike with Nile Entertainment.
The third sequel will be released nationwide in cinemas on 18th October 2024.
